5 Questions with... Jenna Hamilton
November 22, 2013
Our latest staff interview features Jenna, Assistant Accountant in the finance team. Have a read about what Jenna has to say about working at Head…
What did you do before working at Head?
Before working here I studied International Management & Languages at university, it was half business and half languages. I did a year abroad in the north of Spain (Bilbao) that was WONDERFUL, a real culture shock but absolutely brilliant. I can still just about get by in Spanish but I’m definitely not as fluent as I used to be.
How did you become part of the company?
In 2009 Head were looking for a resourcer, which I interviewed for, but they were also looking for a financial administrator which intrigued me. I’ve always been good with numbers and the role sounded really interesting so I took the job. As for working in recruitment, you can say that I definitely fell into it!
About six months into the role, when our FD Callum offered me the opportunity to do some accountancy training, I jumped at the chance. In 2010 I started my CIMA qualification and I’m now just one exam away from being a fully qualified Management Accountant.
What’s the best thing about your job?
The best thing is I get to talk to everyone – people within the business, contractors, clients, and suppliers. I’m involved with every team to some extent which is brilliant. Head is a great company to work for because of the people – I think everyone here works really hard and I know they would go out of their way to help if I ever needed it.
What about the worst thing?
My work can be a wee bit monotonous at times, but to be honest I quite like the monotony because it’s really structured and organised – I know what I need to do and when. Everyone in our small team has a key role and contributes to the overall running of the business.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to get into finance?
Have a positive attitude, be prepared to get your head down and work hard.
Take me back.
